   Regarding dotlessj, the real question is: is it possible to hide the
   dot (by any mechanism) automatically with any system for fonts having
   an AFM? PS is OK thanks to BD.  Truetype is probably not ok
   but I never heard of truetype fonts with afm. What else?

By the way, I don't think I like the qualification that font support
is only for fonts with AFM files.  It should be fonts for which TFMs
can be generated --- and that includes TrueType (DVIWindo happens to
write out an intermediary AFM files for TT fonts, but this is just a
convenience).  Unfortunately TT is less portable than T1 (= Type 1 fonts),
but still useful on Macintosh and Windows....
