In what sense do you mean "there are only spaces in the eps"? Did you
1) examine the actual mpost output file in a text file viewer or editor?
or
2) view the mpost output file directly using Gsview? Or
3) include it as a graphic in a .tex file?
There could be problems with the font setup in the latter two methods.
In the first method, some viewers/editors will not show 8-bit characters
(such as accents in T1 encoding).
If you see only a space with method 3. did you
3a) process the .tex file with file and view the .dvi with YAP? or
3b) process the .tex file with latex, then the .dvi file with dvips and
view the result with GSview? or
3c) process the .tex file with pdflatex, then view the .pdf?
3d) process the .tex file with latex, then the dvi with dvipdfm, then view
the pdf?

All the above (and possibly more) to diagnose it. Maybe more to solve it.
ALWAYS report how you view the output when reporting a problem of a visual
nature (missing characters or graphics).
