Okay, here's my two cents:

I'm not migrating anywhere from MetaPost.  I like MetaPost and will
continue to use it, whether any improvements are made to it or not.  It
ain't broke, it doesn't need to be fixed.

I use it primarily to process the output of my own package, GNU 3DLDF,
which currently only outputs MetaPost code.  One of the purposes of 3DLDF
is to get people interested in MetaPost, METAFONT, TeX, and the work of
Donald Knuth in general.  When I don't need 3D, I sometimes just use MP
as-is.

If most people prefer to use other packages, who cares?
