[metapost] memory problem

I generate a file with metapost commands and when I run metapost I obtain
the following error message:

! MetaPost capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=1500000].


I change the settings in /etc/texmf/texmf.d/95NonPath.cnf

main_memory.mpost = 1500000
-->
main_memory.mpost = 8000000

and I run update-texmf but nothing seems to be updated since I get the
error message again.

I read some manual pages and web posts but I did not get the answer.


My linux distribution is an ubuntu.


Did anybody have had the same problem ?
