Can you try

$  pstoedit -ssp -dt -f mpost stroke-mpgraph.pdf stroke-mpgraph.mpy
?

Mine says
pstoedit: version 3.62 / DLL interface 108 (built: Dec 30 2013 - release
build - g++ 4.7.2 - 64-bit) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2013 Wolfgang Glunz

and produces stroke-mpgraph.mpy
of  2967 bytes
