[tex-k] latex.fmt

Hi, I hope you can give me a hand.

I have Windows2000, and CYGWIN emulator
of linux. Inside the linux windows I try to run
latex file.tex and it says 

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.3)
I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'!

I have done the same in other computers
with the same software (cygwin and windows)
and that error does not arise. I have set PATH
variable properly...I don't know what the problem is.
