It's very hard to hard to comment on a bug report of "does not work",
to be honest!

a standard demo is to say

 pdflatex sample2e

if that runs, and you produce "sample2e.pdf" you have a decent TeX setup.

possibly the only answer. you may have expected something different
from TeX! the TeXLive CD aims to produce a comprehensive and reliable
distribution of TeX and friends, no more and no less.
