Can they be handled with the same tools and drivers that 600+ cdroms?

It seems to me that removing some binaries might just be the simplest 
and least painful solution. Here is another suggestion for how to make 
less of too many files:

  to stay                  to go

  alpha-linux              alphaev5-osf4.0d 
  i386-linux               hppa2.0-hpux10.20
  sparc-solaris2.7         i386-freebsd     
  win32                    rs6000-aix4.2.1.0
  MacOSX                   mips-irix6.5

The platforms 'to go' would still be integrated part of the compilation 
process and so would *not* dissapear; only provided on the Web site 
instead. Would this make the numbers work?
