I am a counterexample. I used it directly from CD for a long time,
because I didn't had enough disk space to make the full install, and I
wanted to explore easily also the less known to me packets.

I think there are still many potential TeX users who cannot afford the
full install and who don't have enought expertise to decide at the
partial install phase what they really need.

So I think that ,,live'' version is very important.

Another question is what should be a "standard benefit" for TUG, GUST
etc. members. I think that the only fair way to decide is to ask them.
