[tex-live] compressed .afm files, and Makefiles

I have undone the compression of .afm files on TeX Live. This was done
to save space, but as we now have a compressed distribution and a DVD 
distribution, this
only affects the demo distribution. That has its own space problems 
which are best
dealt with at the package level.

all in the cause of keeping things simple.

I can also report that my sausage machine now follows Makefiles with
a "texlive" target in package distributions. Thanks to Harald for putting up
numprint to test this.
