[tex-live] installation errors with the current snapshot

Hello,

Attempting to install the current TeX Live distribution I got the following
errors (I will start debugging in this order but if someone recognizes 
these to be generic problems that can be ignored please shout so I skip to 
the next one):

Installation problems:
======================

1.  ./install-tl.sh: line 123: /home/tl/TeX/texmf-var/web2c/updmap.cfg: Permission denied

2. why is there win32 installed in TeX/bin directory? I only selected the
default (x86_64) architecture to be installed.

3. reported required disk size 120M but the real number (du -sh TeX) is 
almost hundred times higher, 1.1G.

4. something to do with updating font maps:
...
mapWarn notFound context.map
...
mapWarn notFound nnt.map
...
updmap: Severe problems during map file lookup, see mapWarn messages. Consult the manualpage for details.

5. at the end of installation the message tells about PATH but forgets
to mention VARTEXMF. Is this no longer needed?

Runtime problems
================

Ignoring the above installation problems I tried to compile a simple hello.tex
anyway and noticed that texconfig init failed to generate most of the *.fmt
files.
