By the way, note that on this system (an O2) the default visual ID is
8 bits PseudoColor, the visual id of the root window is also 8 bits
PseudoColor, but differs from the default, and xdvi-motif ends up
using a 24 bits TrueColor visual.  All of which is perfectly proper
and reasonable for this type of box, but can play havoc with
applications that are even the slightest bit sloppy in this area.
