[tex-live] TeXLive 2003 problem...

In the AUCTeX shell, we have the possibility of enabling source
specials. Being a curious guy, I wanted to see what happens in
PDFTeX.

So I tried it:

bash-2.05b$ pdftex -src "\relax xxx"
This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.11a (Web2C 7.5.2)
 Source specials enabled.
 %&-line parsing enabled.
 (/usr/local/TeX/texmf/web2c/cp8bit.tcx)
{/var/lib/texmf/pdftex/config/pdftex.cfg}
Babel <v3.7j> and hyphenation patterns for english, french, german, ngerman, ca
talan, croatian, czech, danish, dutch, estonian, finnish, greek, hungarian, ita
lian, latin, mongolian, norwegian, polish, portuguese, romanian, russian, slove
ne, serbocroat, slovak, spanish, swedish, ukenglish, ukrainian, welsh, dumylang
, nohyphenation, loaded.
Segmentation fault
bash-2.05b$

Without Source Specials, this will work. With PDFLaTeX, it will work
(don't know what it does, though). But with plain PDFTeX, it dumps
core. I regenerated formats: still dumps core on Source Specials.
It does not help to set \pdfoutput to 0.

Well, ok,

tex -src "\relax xxx"

also dumps core, so this may be expected.
