[tex-live] Re: Debian TeX live packages are ready for testing

Okay. This is so exciting I just had to try :-)

I started out by purging my tetex and then doing `aptitude update &&
aptitude install texlive-latexrecemmended' and the a `fmtutil-sys
--all'.

1. `texlive-basic' conflicts with Debians `texinfo' package because
   the file /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/dvips/epsf.tex is in both
   packages (I just purged texinfo and proceeded).

2. Now I wanted to install `texlive-texinfo' but this conflicts with
   Debians `info' packages because the file
   /usr/share/man/man1/info.1.gz is in both packages (I just purged
   info and proceeded).

3. My test document tried to generate some missing fonts, but failed
   because `gsftopk' was missing (I then installed `texlive-binextra'
   where it is present).

4. There is no /var/cache/fonts directory so generating of fonts
   failed until I created one myself (writable ny all users).

5. I installed some more packages and at some point `fmtutil-sys
   --all' stated to fail with:

        This is a summary of all `failed' messages and warnings:
        `aleph -ini  -jobname=aleph -progname=aleph *aleph.ini' failed
        `omega -ini  -jobname=omega -progname=omega omega.ini' failed

   This was before installing texlive-omega (which solved the problem)
   and texlive-formatsextra.

6. mathpazo.sty is installed with the package `texlive-latex' but uses
   some font stuff or something from `texlive-mathextra' (at least
   with my test document).

7. My test document also fails with \usepackage{lmodern}. From the
   missfont.log:

        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 ec-lmtt9
        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+57/600 --dpi 657 ec-lmtt10
        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 ec-lmtt9
        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+57/600 --dpi 657 ec-lmtt10
        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 ec-lmtt9
        mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+57/600 --dpi 657 ec-lmtt10

I have now installed all the packages except for the locale
documentation packages and the language packages (texlive-langdanish
has been installed though) and so far I have not discovered problems
besides the above.
