Hi Axel,

Since Vim 6.4 was released some weeks ago it may be a good idea to
    upgrade.

Thanks for the heads-up. I deleted the old versions. It's not obvious
to me exactly which distribution files are useful to include. Also, it
seems painful to track, since vim has nothing in particular to do with
TeX and isn't on CTAN.

Gerben, will you change this in future versions of TeXShop? (I have
    version 1.40.)

TeXShop is maintained by Dick Koch, and I have a vague memory that he's
updated this for the next release. Gerben can correct me ...

    How do I share PK-fonts between texlive/2004 and texlive/2005?

The simplest thing to do would be to make a copy :).
Or symlink the directories.

    Should I link texlive/2004/texmf-dist/fonts/pk to
    texlive/2005/texmf-dist/fonts/pk?

Why are there pk files in texmf-dist/fonts/pk anyway? They should be in
texmf-local or texmf-var. There are just a few pk's in the distribution
(for no particularly crucial reason that I know of).

Should I tell texlive-2005 to use the 2004 folder?

Sounds scary. I wouldn't go there. Won't you want to delete 2004
eventually?

Or should I simply forget about that and use lmr instead of cmr/ecr?

Well, the answer is yes to LM, but aside from that, there are Type 1
versions of all CM fonts for many years, and they are used by default.
There are also Type 1's as part of CM-super which cover mostly the same
stuff as EC (as I understand it), and they too are used by default.

So, in general, if you just take the distribution as it is, usual
documents should end up using only Type 1's, no bitmaps.

Best,
Karl
