Ok, since the CS, PL and VN versions of CM have official maintainers, I
assume that there will be some sort of announcement (especially for
distributers) when everything has been sorted out.

I don't understand this. The AE fonts are just a bunch of virtual fonts
to make CM look like (almost) T1 encoded.

Do you mean you are using LM with CM metrics, or have you changed to use
LM alltogether? I had assumed the latter were the case. And I really
would prefer if it were possible for LaTeX, too.
