Right, this is my own fault. The port looks like it needs amendment.
Ideally I would like to scrap this texmf-var tree altogether and
incorporate it in the main texmf tree if it isnt needed. It appears to
turn up after updmap-sys / mktexlsr (which is executed by the pkg
install). Is it required?
