Hmm, I don't understand what exactly you want to achive. There is
only an mf.ini but no mf-nowin.ini in The TeXLive tree.

Do you talk about engines? Currently I get:

$ ldd `which mf`
 libXt.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libXt.so.6 (0x00002b7131876000)
 libSM.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libSM.so.6 (0x00002b71319d8000)
 libICE.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libICE.so.6 (0x00002b7131ae3000)
 libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libXext.so.6 (0x00002b7131bfe000)
 libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libX11.so.6 (0x00002b7131d0f000)
 libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libXau.so.6 (0x00002b7131f19000)
 libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x00002b713201c000)
 libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00002b7132136000)
 libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x00002b713223a000)
 libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00002b7132392000)
 /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00002b713175e000)

$ ldd `which mf-nowin`
 libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x00002b84ac1a6000)
 libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00002b84ac2fe000)
 /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00002b84ac08e000)

"mf-nowin" is for the scripts doing their work in the background and
do not require a window system while "mf" is for interactive use.
I hope that you do not want to change this.

I prefer this too. Staszek's idea to switch back to version numbers
is fine for me as well.

There are some other constraints: The DVD will be sold by Lehmann's
bookstore. They hardly can sell a TeXLive-2006 DVD in 2007. They
also do not want to promote TeXLive during the weeks before Xmas. On
the first glance this is not our problem. But Lehmann's bookstore
supports DANTE. I think that we should honor this. To have more
money in the project funds is not bad, all TeX users benefit from it.

Exactly this is the point. But:

	sed -e 's/can think/do think/g'

Development of TeXLive-2005 had been frozen at the beginning of
November 2005 but as far as I remember I received the disks in 2006.
I suppose that this will happen each year.

Staszek, calling it "2006/2007" in order to honor people who worked on
it in 2006 seems to be useless because a "normal" TeX user is not
aware of this relationship.

In my opinion it's best to switch to TL-2007 now. It's a pity then
that there is no TL-2006. But I guess that when people receive their
TL-2007 CD/DVD, nobody will miss TL-2006.

Anyway, Staszek's idea to switch back to version numbers is not bad.
We should at least consider this idea.

Regards,
  Reinhard
