[tex-live] how to find out what went wrong with fmtutil?

This patch could help:

After that, you can inspect the temporary directory.  It's name is
defined in 

  tmpdir=${TMP-/tmp}/$progname.$$

so it is probably /tmp/fmtutil.<somenumber>

It should have the logs.
