Hi,

after playing with the Debian packages for a while, I decided to install
a "plain upstream" TeX Live 2007 under Debian GNU/Linux, unstable.

I first tried to use the GUI installer, but this didn't work fine.
First of all, some Tk window was shown for a very short time, but I
wasn't able to read anything, I don't even know whether it contains any
text. Then, I didn't find a place that would allow me to change the
installation directory, but the "Remove" tab said that it is "/", and I
could choose to remove "/texmf-local/", too. Being bold, I proceeded
nevertheless and selected to install basicbin, but

- it gave an error message, "no files texmf/list/*" or similar

- it hangs in the postinstallation step.

I stopped this all, and I couldn't find any files anywhere.

Then I tried the commandline installer. Here the user interface worked
fine. However, I got this:

../install-tl.sh: line 158: unzip: command not found
../install-tl.sh: line 158: unzip: command not found
../install-tl.sh: line 158: unzip: command not found
../install-tl.sh: line 158: unzip: command not found
[... repeated over and over again ...]

Done unpacking.
[...]
Welcome to TeX Live!

Well, I guess it should have failed. I really suggest to make scripts
"set -e". After installung unzip, all went fine.

Regards, Frank
