The reason is that current Debian packages for lmodern don't ship the
the fonts in OpenType format. This was done in order to save space and
after asking on debian-tex-maint. It seemed at that time (from the
non-responses I got) that the fonts in OTF format weren't useful on
Debian systems, so I didn't include them in the Debian package.

Since they have a clear use now, we'll include them in next versions of
the package (maybe creating a new otf-lmodern package).

In the meantime, Atsuhito, you can download:

  http://www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/latin-modern/download/lm1.010x-otf.zip

and put the .otf files in ~/texmf/fonts/opentype/public/lm.
