[tex-live] Win32: xelatex -0.999.4 failure to process sample2e.tex

After this morning's update:

F:\TeXLive\2008\bin\win32>ls -l xe*.*
-rwxrwxrwx  1 WhiteG 0    3072 2008-08-05 05:05 xelatex.exe
-rwxrwxrwx  1 WhiteG 0 2318336 2008-08-05 05:05 xetex.exe

xetex is working on my real Windows XP system.   The binaries
haven't changed, but the font cache was rebuilt,so the problem
may lie outside xetex.
