I also think that the disappearing cmd is caused by something like
an unintended double-click.

The `failed to create cache' message comes from fc-cache. Caching
fonts by fc-cache is supposed to speed up xetex, bu xetex should
still run without. Anyhow, a failed fc-cache doesn't abort the
installer.

Staszek has reported that even if fc-cache initially fails, a
command `fc-cache -v -r' given in a new cmd might work.
