Hi Nikos,
are you using the stuff from the DVD?  Maybe it makes sense to replace
texdoc by a newer version.

You have to update the files:

  http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/bin/win32/tl-w32-texdoc-wrapper.texlua
  http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/bin/win32/texdoc.bat

No idea why Acrobat issues the "Unknown error" message on some Windows
systems but not on others.  It would be nice if the Windows gurus on
this mailing list could reproduce this error, but it's obviously not
reproducible.
