Oh, I thought texdoc was already doing that.  At home, it works make default
choices that are ok for me (xpdf, xdvi, firefox...)  At work, I have the older
(non-texlua) version and configure things via TEXDOCVIEW_pdf and so on,
because I don't like the defaults (acroread etc).

Yep, unless someone else wants to do it before me.  I'll look at the code and
texlua doc for relevant functions for searching in the path, and try it soon.
