I should have mentioned that if you have a copy of the TL development
repository (via any of the methods at http://tug.org/texlive/svn/), you
can test installation simply by doing
  cd Master
  install-tl
  
Or install-tl.bat on Windows.

(The ISO image is in fact simply a copy of the Master/ tree.)


Also, the top-level tl-portable[.bat] script is another thing to test,
if you're interested.  That is our attempt at running TL from media,
without installing anything.  I admit I haven't yet tried that one
myself :).
