What I understand by "native utf8" is utf8 with no active character, to 
use directly with unicode fonts. It's the case of most documents made 
with XeLaTeX (with no inputenc option, and inputenc not even loaded), so 
it seems reasonable to say that it's not strictly incompatible with 
LaTeX... And I think it's a good thing, it should be the same for 
LuaLaTeX, as most users will use it with fontspec in the future, like 
XeLaTeX.

Then I don't see why this goal has been abolished when using XeTeX... 
ok, all of this is a hack because LaTeX is frozen and there is no 
replacement... but I don't see any other solution...
