[tex-live] How to overwrite mactex 2008 with mactex 2009?

It'll overwrite an existing ghostscript installed in /usr/local, but I think
you'd still be left with /usr/local/share/ghostscript/8.61 (or whatever the
previously installed version was).

Right, and MacTeX includes a system preference pane so that this can be
accomplished by clicking a button.

AFAIK the only bits left behind would be ghostscript installed in /usr/local
and various GUI applications, and fonts if installed for the OS to use.
