gedit-latex-plugin only recommends texlive, at least in Jaunty. You
can prevent installation of texlive by either
- installing gedit-latex-plugin from the command-line with
sudo apt-get install gedit-latex-plugin
or
- go to Synaptics Settings Preferences and uncheck `Consider
recommended packages as dependencies'
If later you want to install another package with a hard dependency
on pieces of texlive, then you can let synaptic or apt-get install
as much of tl07 as it deems necessary. Just make sure that the tl08
binaries are found first and all should be well.
