[tex-live] tlmgr updates

    When TL2009 comes out will TL2008 be updated by running 'matching' tlmgr?  

Norbert has already written something to try to update a TL 2008 into
2009 at install time.  Perfection is not to be expected, though.

    One can guess that new tlmgr will look at

That was my idea when I devised the .../2008 path, of course, but since
then it's become apparent it was a bad idea, precisely because it
complicates the yearly transition.  In 2008->09, there will be quite a
few major implementation changes, like xz instead of lzma, but we can
hope that 09->10 will be smoother.  Doing the best we can, but we're
just human beings.

    Will be they the same?

2008 will be deleted from CTAN.
