[tex-live] Conflicting install-info

Hi all,

Of course I have texlive on my Ubuntu 9.04 system at the beginning of my
$PATH:

/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/x86_64-linux:/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/x86_64-linux:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

Now I got some weird error from prerm, postrm, preinst and postinst
scripts via apt-get and finally tracked it down that the install-info my
system is using is the one from texlive, which is not compatible with
the expected version.

The errors look like:

Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
Setting up ***** (*****) ...
install-info: No dir file specified; try --help for more information.
dpkg: error processing ***** (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 *****
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

One can manually overcome this by commenting out the calls to
install-info in the prerm, postrm, preinst and postinst scripts, but it
is better to solve the conflict in a generic way. (For now I have hidden
the one in texlive)

What does texlive recommend when you would like to have texlive in the
beginning of your $PATH? Is this a bad idea to begin with? Should
install-info be removed from the texlive distro? Or should it be
upgraded? Please advise.

Regards,

Pander
