Do you mean this in general or TeX workloads specifically?

All benchmarks that I've seen from around the time when 64-bit
extensions were introduced showed only minimal (if any) speed
advantage of 64 over 32-bit. Perhaps the actual difference comes from
the fact that 32-bit is compiled for the lowest common denominator of
i386 architecture and thus not taking advantage of all the extensions
added afterwards.
