Yes, TeX Live is a usable way. It installs everything by its own
packaging manager to a separate directory tree. You just have to add
the directory of the TL binaries to the BEGINNING of your PATH. I have
seen too many conflicts between teTeX and TeX Live, putting TeX Live
to the beginning of PATH is a remedy.
