You can't please everyone, eh, TeXLive people? For years everyone was complaining ``Why can't we have an easy to use system as MiKTeX to have the latest updates?'' And now that we have it, then ``Why do you make it so damn easy to upgrade?''

Sorry, Claire, but what you're saying is that it isn't common sense to ask people to use common sense.

When in a deadline, I use a combination of Zdenek's and Karl's advices ---I want to have the leading-edge packages as your faculty members do, but before every update I tar my working distribution (I still have my 2008_backup_2009-09-11.tar, done before installing TeXLive 2009) ---it only takes about 2 minutes in my MacBook.
