I just built texlive on the "sparc-sun-solaris2.10/" box from the svn sources
grabbed last night, using gcc-4.2.4 from openpkg. With this version I
can create
lutex.fmt, but using the luatex.fmt from MacOSX I get:

$ luatex story \\end
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.60.1-2010061008 (TeX Live 2010) (rev 3685)
 restricted \write18 enabled.

(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

After decompression, the two format files are not the same size:

$ ls -l solaris/luatex.tmp macosx/luatex.tmp
11136 -rw-r--r--   1 X X      1970972 Jun 10 09:06 macosx/luatex.tmp
3856 -rw-r--r--   1  X X     1971054 Jun 10 09:06 solaris/luatex.tmp

So there are two problems: luatex.fmt doesn't appear to be shareable, and
the sparc-solaris binaries don't work on my sparc-solaris-2.10 box.

There are still some luatex issues:

$ mtxrun --help
.../X/texlive/2010/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.10/mtxrun:2229: bad argument
#1 to 'gsub' (string expected, got nil)
