Why not extract the names of the "enabled" engines from fmtutil.cnf,  
sorting it and making this a list of unique members, then a loop  
around what is left...

Actually I play with the idea of also disabling LuaTeX since its  
utilities crash when they try to build another font cache (besides  
those of the OS, the X server/font server, and libfontconfig). So  
LuaTeX is pretty useless for me...
