it's tiresome, i agree, but i'm not sure there's anything i can
rationally do in that area.  of course, tl isn't the only game in town,
and floatflt _is_ in miktex (whose licence rules i really don't
understand).  what faq are we referring to here? -- fundamentally, i
don't want to generate redundant information like this in the uk faq.

i think the chance of contacting the author of picins is pretty
slender.  piet van oostrum failed ~=1990 (as a result of which, his
clarification document doesn't appear in the package directory, iirc).

as for floatflt, i think there _was_ an exchange with dahlgren, and he
was unwilling to change.

on the whole, i don't think the catalogue (which is where the longdesc
comes from) _should_ hold statements of this form, either -- each of the
references in the catalogue is a link, and the interested used, starting
from there, could find whether the referenced package is in tl or
miktex.

otoh, getting from that link to the details of the linked packages is
probably a bit much for tl.

so i don't see any usable solution for this problem; any suggestions
would be welcome.
