Would such a scheme have a broader appeal beyond your course?  We are
obviously not going to introduce an additional scheme just for your
specialized course!  There are other ways you can make a customized
installation easier for your students, e.g., prepare a profile file
that specifies the package collections you require and distribute that
to your students.
