I've actually seen the opposite
When printing from Adobe Reader, things went wrong. Printing from almost anything else (capable of printing PDF), it went well.
It took 18 months to get the manifacturer to admit that this was their problem.
Plus, AR seems to have a much better print interface than the other PDF viewers and most users are used to using AR.
though, they do understand (when shown an example) that AR is not a good LaTeX previewer (no synctex support etc)

fwiw, we regularly find that output from some-free-acrobat-
reader-or-other has seized up a printer.
100-\epsilon% of the time, reprinting using acro reader solves the
problem.
(of course, some users learn, so over time the incidence of the problem
tend to decrease.)
the plus side is that it maintains demand for technicians ... something
the university would really rather not contemplate.
robin in cambridge, a university run by loonies, as with so many
universities nowadays :-(
