[tex-live] missing format files in texlive 2007

Guys,

Thanks a lot for your replies.

The command

$ texconfig-sys init etex

did not help. Still no format for etex. The command

$ kpsewhich fmtutil.cnf

says nothing, but exit code is 1. I guess that means something (path not found?).
The man page does not state anything on exit codes. The file
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnfis a file that consists of comments and empty lines solely. But this is a hint:
I presume I need to edit this file (or add one in /etc/texmf/fmt.d/ to add
etex as format? Would a line like

etex            pdftex         language.def    -translate-file=cp227.tcx *etex.ini
suffice? I added this line, ran update-fmtutil, and etex now gets to the point of actually
rendering pages.

Thanks heaps!

- Winston
