    It tried defining this directory in my .profile file

A bare directory of binaries is the starting point, not the end point.
You have to move that directory to under bin/ in the Master/ tree.

If you can install TL on another platform, you'll end up with the
dir structure and can copy the mipsel directory over.  Otherwise, you
could rsync the Master tree too.
