[tex-live] Installing an font from CTAN in the TeXLive tree

I would really appreciate some help in solving a problem installing a
font in my TeXLive tree. I've looked at the documentation and tried my
best, but seem to be missing something. I'd appreciate some help. I'm
using TeXLive 2011 on MacOSX

Objective: Install simpsons font in my texmf-local tree. (It was
removed from TL standard but is available on CTAN)

What I have done:

Installed the all the .mf files in:
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/source/public/simpsons

Installed the .tfm file in:
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/source/public/simpsons

Installed simpsons.sty in
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/tex/latex/public/simpsons

did mktexlsr
kpsewhich simpsons.sty
kpsewhich simpsons.tfm
kpsewhich simpsons.mf
(it found all of them)

updmap-sys --enable Map=simpsons.map

ERROR:  The following map file(s) couldn't be found:
	         simpsons.map

I removed it by: updmap-sys --syncwithtrees

so at least everything else works...
