[tex-live] Strange behaviour between two Macs

Hi all,

thanks for the many suggestions.
I think I found the reason for the differences in paper size.

As Herb suggested the paper size on one of the machines was set to letter, the other one was a4. This influenced in particular pdftex, which I was using throughout.

I tried to change the papersize to a4 using the tex live utility but failed. I cannot use the configure option on the gui. It just freezes. I could change it with tlmgr, though and this made the documents come out identically. 

However, when I checked the current processes I see several entries like that (I guess because I killed the gui several times)

66034   ??  R     35:48.09 kpsewhich --progname=pdftex --format=tex pdftexconfig.tex

So it seems that it is kpsewhich, which has troubles.
