rev. 30629 'fixes' this, and fixes another reported mpost bug as well.

The problem in this case was that at the end of a run, mpost
tries to clear the internal memory for metric data, but there
are cases where it apparently frees the same memory multiple times.

I could not come up with a proper solution this fast, but commenting
out the memory release code seems fix the crash, at the expense of a
(smallish) memory leak.
