[tex-live] tlmgr update –self fails, why?

you cannot (officially) update from one TL version to another, so you have to do a total reinstallation from scratch

tug.org/texlive

if you have a fairly decent internet connection, a netinstall will take 30min to an hour.

comes with Fedora.

If I try to update tlmgr, it fails anyway
