TeX Live does not set any environment vars. If you have not set them
yourself, there are none. It can create symlinks. If you created them
during install, you should first remove them by tlmgr (if you do not
remove them, you will have problems later and removing dead symlinks
may be difficult for non-gurus). If you do not have symlinks, you
certainly have the executable directory listed in PATH, you have to
remove it. If you copied (or linked) fonts config to
/etc/fonts/conf.d, you have to remove it as well. And finally do rm
-rf as you wrote, of course as the same user who installed it but it
makes no harm if you remove it as root.
