It’s not a question of internal commands. Biblatex 3.4 completely reorganised the name formatting. Every style which changes name formatting – which has nothing to do with „internal commands“ – has to adapt to the new naming machinery. Without an update, many styles will stop working.

This is all documented in the release notes. I updated my own style biblatex-fiwi yesterday, the new versions should be available soon. It’s not terribly complicated to do – it probably took me less than an hour –, but style authors have to do it.
