[tex-live] xelatex exit status and its driver's exit status behavior

It seems that the exit status of the subprocess xdvipdfmx does not affect the exit status of xelatex. Is there a way to change this behavious? It is my opinion that the default behavior of xelatex should be to allow xdvipdfmx to influence its exit status. I am aware of xelatex --no-pdf.
