[tex-live] TL2017 does not seem to recognize old varnames in installation profiles

It's macOS 10.12.5.  I'm not using the darwinlegacy packages.

Below is the entire profile that works fine on TL 2016, but which fails
with TL2017.  (I first replace "2016" with "2017"  in the dirnames for the
variables.)
