[tex-live] install problem, texlive-2017

where exactly did you add those settings?

Also, I'd add the extra PATH as the start, not the end.

I'm assuming this is Linux

You do not need to add any of the TEXXXX settings, that is done automatically.

the MANPATH, INFOPATH and PATH I'd add to

~/.profile or a global one, then log out and in again to have it activated.

If you access this linux box via ssh as well, it might be and idea to add the three PATH settings to bashrc as well. Only adding it to bashrc is not a good idea if you start editrs etc via menus.

As user texlive.texlive I installed texlive2017, but I have trouble
getting it to work.

E.g.:
$ kpsewhich article.cls
$ find . -name article.cls
./2017/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/article.cls
$ pwd
/usr/local/texlive
$

any ideas ?
